Mapping
A N C I E N T I N D I A

Students are given a blank outline map of Ancient India with which they draw their own maps utilizing 5 different maps from two textbooks to locate major elements of India's geography. Student maps also include a key, a compass rose, names & borders of modern countries, the Ganges & Indus River, 5 major ancient & modern citiies, the Indus River Civilization, waterways, plateaus, ghats, deserts, and the Himalayan Mountains.

One objective is for students to appreciate how India's vast & varied topography contributed to the development of different cultures and dialects. Later in the unit we will explore the spread of
Buddhism around India and then up to China.

National tests have shown that independent reading at home is a key ingredient for improving a student's language skills!
