2007-2008 Sarcophagus Project Calendar & Criteria

Each student will build a sarcophagus based on their research and lessons in class. The construction will take place outside the classroom. It can be made of either: cardboard, wood, metal, foam core. (NOT paper!)
This project requires a lot of research and planning! Please do not wait until the last week or night!
Projects that are rushed, sloppy, and/or missing parts from the criteria list will be graded down.

• Your sarcophagus is due in class 01.09.08…..however, please remember several other steps are due beforehand! Please remember each step has it's own due date!

Sarcophagus PROJECT CALENDAR (When and what is due)

TOTAL= 150 points!!!
10pts.   11.13.07   _ Describe at least 10 materials you will need to build your sarcophagus (S.S.N.B.)
10pts.   11.20.07   _ Explain 10 steps you will take to build your sarcophagus (S.S.N.B.)
10pts.   11.29.07   _ Draw 3 rough sketches of designs u might use for your sarcophagus (S.S.N.B.)
20pts.   12.04.07   _ 1-2 pages of research notes AND bibliography  with at least 4 references (including at
                                   least 1 book) where you have found information  about Egyptian beliefs, the
                                   sarcophagus ,burial rites etc.
100pts. 01.09.08   _ Your completed Sarcophagus project with all the criteria listed below.

length: between 8 &16 inches only
width: between 6 &12 inches only
depth: between 3 & 8 inches only

Sarcophagus Criteria ~ Your Sarcophagus Project should include:

  1.  __ A 2 minute presentation about your Sarcophagus. Please be able to answer questions explaining 
            how your project helps you  
            understand ancient Egyptian  culture and beliefs. ( HINT: Think of ‘who, what, when, why, where,
            how” questions & answers.)
  2.  __ On the outside of your sarcophagus ~ ancient Egyptian designs & motifs
  3.  __ On the outside of your sarcophagus ~ Egyptian hieroglyphics
  4.  __ On face of coffin ~ Egyptian style "head" (human or animal) (drawn or 3-D)
  5.  __ Inside your sarcophagus ~ objects for the ‘afterlife’
  6.  __ Inside your sarcophagus ~ a copy of an actual ancient Egyptian prayer  
           (translated in English) (please note source where you copied it from)
  7.  __ 1-2 pages of research notes and a correctly written bibliography with at least 4 sources (including at 
             least 1 book) that gives evidence of your research. For the way to do your bibliography look at your
             handout or  go to http://www.forfar.net/ISLC/englishbiblio.htm   (please remember Bibliography & 
             Notes due 12.04.07)
  8.  __  Inside your sarcophagus ~ magic amulets
  9.  __  On the bottom (underneath) of your sarcophagus ~ Print your name and block!
