2017 Sarcophagus Project ~

Each student will build a homemade sarcophagus based on their research and lessons in class.
The construction will take place outside the classroom.
It can be made of either: cardboard, wood, clay,
metal, foam core.
This project requires a lot of research and planning! Please do not wait until the last week or night!
Projects that are rushed, sloppy, and/or missing parts from the criteria list will be graded down.

• Your sarcophagus and presentation script are due in class 12.12.17…..however, please remember several other steps are due beforehand! Please remember each step has it's own due date!

CALENDAR & CRITERIA (When and what is due)

TOTAL= 177 points!!!
• 10pts. 11.15.17 __ Draw 3 rough sketches of designs u might use for your sarcophagus. (S.S.N.B.)
• 10pts. 11.17.17 __ Describe at least 10 materials you will need to build your sarcophagus. (S.S.N.B.) with parent
                                 signature ___________________
• 10pts. 11.28.17 __ Explain 10+ steps you will take to build your sarcophagus. (S.S.N.B.)
• 12pts. 12.06.17 __ Your Global Competency "Connections to Egypt" Chart with at least 2 bullet points per competency
• 15 pts. 12.08.17 __ Bibliography listing at least 5 project sources using the correct bibliography format

• 10pts. 12.12.17  __ 1+ page written script for your 1-2 minute presentation about ancient Egyptian beliefs.
                                (see below under #1) (S.S.N.B.)
• 100pts. 12.12.17 __ Your completed Sarcophagus project..
• 10 pts. 12.12.17 __ 1-2 minute presentation with your script for your completed Sarcophagus project.

Your Sarcophagus dimensions:
length: between 8 &16 inches only
width: between 6 &12 inches only
depth: between 3 & 8 inches only

+++ Oversized Projects will be graded lower for not following size limits!!! +++

+++ Premade commercial sarcophagi will be not be accepted. +++

Sarcophagus Criteria ~ Your Sarcophagus Project should include:

  1.  __ A 1-2 minute SCRIPT for your presentation about your Sarcophagus.
Please be able to answer questions explaining  how your project helps you  understand ancient Egyptian  culture and beliefs.
            ( HINT: Think of ‘who, what, when, why, where, how” questions & answers.)
 
  2.  __ On the outside of your sarcophagus ~ ancient Egyptian designs & motifs
  3.  __ On the outside of your sarcophagus ~ Egyptian hieroglyphics
  4.  __ On top of coffin ~ Egyptian style "head" (human or animal) (drawn or 3-D)
  5.  __ Inside your sarcophagus ~ objects for the ‘afterlife,’ magic amulets for protection
  6.  __ Inside your sarcophagus ~ a copy of an actual ancient Egyptian prayer  
             (translated in English) (please note source where you copied it from)
  7.  __ Your Global Competency "Connections to Egypt" Chart with at least 3-4 bullet points per competency
 
8.  __  1 page script for 1 minute presentation
  9.  __ Bibliography listing at least 5 project sources using the correct bibliography format
10.  __  On the bottom (underneath) of your sarcophagus ~ Print your name / period

Optional: ~ A mummy that fits inside your sarcophagus

~ Extra credit, (as always) for careful creativity, deep determination, and unusual understanding.
